LVBC Monthly Review: February 2025; issue No. 17
(Lake Victoria Basin Commission, 2025-02-01) Lake Victoria Basin Commission, Lake Victoria Basin Commission
The February 2025 issue of the *LVBC Monthly Review* highlights the Lake Victoria Basin Commission’s (LVBC) efforts to mobilize East African Community (EAC) Partner States in support of a proposed Multisectoral Multiphase Programme for Ecosystem Stabilization and Socio-economic Development of the Lake Victoria Basin, backed by the World Bank. The programme aims to enhance water quality, transport infrastructure, and the blue and green economies, creating jobs and reducing poverty. A consultative session with regional Permanent Secretaries laid out key priorities, and formal requests for funding are expected by August 2025. In parallel, the EAC and Germany’s KfW signed agreements worth EUR 46 million to support infrastructure, water management, and climate resilience projects across the region. Construction of the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Mwanza, Tanzania, is progressing, having reached 71% completion. The review also includes updates on stakeholder engagements, development partnerships, and community outreach events like the Mara Day celebration.
