dc.description.abstract | One of the principal objectives of the Water Quality and Ecosystem Management Components is to find the reasons for the changes observed in the lake water quality, quantity and ecosystem, and to suggest remedial measures. To identify the reasons for the changes, one requires knowledge of the changes in the pollution loadings to the lake, which in turn, depends on the discharges into the lake from the catchments and the atmosphere and lake outflow to River Nile. Provision of this information requires a network of river and lake monitoring stations in order to: Establish short and long term fluctuations in water quantity in relation to basin characteristics and climate. Determine the water quality criteria required to optimise and maintain water uses and Determine seasonal short and long-term trends in water quantity and quality in relation to demographical changes, water use changes and management interventions for the purpose of water quality protection | en_US |
