dc.description.abstract | The purpose of developing a Fisheries Management Plan (FMP) is to sustain the livelihoods of the communities who depend on the fishery resources of Lake Victoria, and to reduce poverty, food insecurity and unemployment. It is believed that establishing a viable system for the management of the lake fisheries and restoring the ecosystem will contribute to the development of sustainable fisheries. It is believed that a key element to this strategy will be achieved through mobilizing and involving stakeholders at local, national, regional and international levels in the management process.
This is one of six strategic areas that the plan is designed to address. | en_US |
