Fish contamination, fish spoilage and post harvest losses were identified as major problems affecting fish trade in Lake Victoria. This paper summarizes efforts which have been made to improve fish quality before reaching fish processing plants i.e. during fishing, landing and transportation. Fish landing systems have been improved to include in water fish transfer, beach landing racks and floating barge. These measures have almost eliminated fish contamination during landing. The design and usage of these methods are elaborated. The paper identifies current fish transportation deficiencies and advises on appropriate measures to improve performance, setting of technical standards and areas for technology transfersen_US
