The countries of the EAC have taken steps to integrate STI considerations into a range of policy frameworks. Furthermore, the Partner States undertook to establish the East African Science and Technology Commission (EASTECO) with the objective of promoting regional integration in the development, management and application of STI in the East African Community. It is the expectation of the Partner States that EASTECO will be the main regional agency through which the Partner States will develop and implement common STI policies and programs. The First EASTECO 5-year Strategic Plan has been informed by key challenges and opportunities in the East African Community member countries. It was developed through a multi-stakeholder process involving key stakeholders from the EAC Partner States. This involved consultations with stakeholders in all partner states and a regional stakeholder workshop held in Kigali on 22ndand 23rdAugust 2016 to discuss the draft Strategic Plan.en_US
